Gitzo was founded in 1917 by the inventor Arsène Gitzhoven. The company designs and produces high quality tripods and accessories for professional photographers.
In 1992, Gitzo became part of the Imaging & Staging Division of Vitec Group Plc, a multinational holding company listed on the London Stock Exchange, specialized in supporting professional photographers, broadcasters and filmmakers. Between 2001 and 2005 Gitzo was gradually moved from France to Italy.
Gitzo tripods, monopods, heads and accessories are widely acknowledged by professionals across the World as leading products in the fields of photography, video and nature watching/observation. Their enviable reputation in the photo industry is due to Gitzo innovations like the first uses of carbon fiber and basalt fiber for the production of tripod leg tubes, the first use of magnesium for heads, combined of course with the company's attention to detail and focus on design that is functional, elegant and timeless.
Gitzo products are superbly engineered and together they represent a complete range of supports for 35mm, medium- and large-format cameras, both film and digital, both for studio and location work. Gitzo products are versatile and perfectly well-suited to almost all photographic techniques and styles.
Gitzo's reliable and stylish tripods last “forever”. A Gitzo's timeless style and precision build quality help it to outlast most cameras (most photographers even), while the use of innovative materials, modern design and advanced production processes make a Gitzo stand out above the competition.
Gitzo collaborates with the most important professionals in the field of photography. These photographers test all products during development and production, and their strict criteria and demanding expectations inform and lead design and production phases, from prototype to final product.
A Gitzo is functional, versatile and durable; a tripod bought 30 years ago can be used with modern accessories and can be serviced and repaired just like today's models. Gitzo’s unfailing standards have helped to maintain the company’s worldwide reputation for excellence in the photographic industry
Gitzo was founded in France in 1917 by Arsène Gitzhoven, and first produced cameras, cable releases, shutters and filmpack frames for the nascent photographic industry
In 1942, World War led to the company being temporarily closed. Production started again in 1944 and tripods were introduced to Gitzo’s product range.
In 1960, Arsène Gitzhoven retired and his daughter, Yvonne Plieger, took over running the company with her husband. They devoted themselves to the development of a wide range of top quality tripods and heads. Exports quickly grew to cover more than 54 countries.
Gitzo became part of Vitec Group plc, a specialized multinational holding company operating in the photography, broadcast and film industries.
